Sashimono box

This box stems from Rasmus Fenhann's fascination with the box makers craft. It is a craft tradition with a history that draws all the way back from ancient Egypt and is found in all cultures.
The culture that has produced the most delicate wooden boxes is the Japanese. In 2001 and 2003 Rasmus Fenhann went on study trips to Japan and worked with Japanese masters who are often called Sashimono-shi (makers of sashimono crafts).
This jewellery box is a westernized version of the Japanese boxing tradition associated with the tea ceremony. The box is made of solid European cherry wood with details of ebony, inside is fiddleback maple.
