"A chair build on ancient mathematical principles"
Hexagon Chair
This chair was designed for the exhibition "The sculptural furniture" in dialog with the beautiful sculptures a by Mr. Bertel Thorvaldsen at Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen. Rasmus Fenhann was inspired by the geometric pattern floors at Thorvaldsen's museum and used ancient Greek mathematic formulas to construct a lounge chair. The shell is an exact section of one of Archimedes' basic mathematical shapes (Truncated Octahedron).
The Chair was later a part of his exhibition "Japanometry" at Galerie Maria Wettergren. The green version of the chair was showed at the exhibition Design without borders" in Kiscelli museum in Budapest.
Process
The chair was made with analogue routing jigs and traditional hand tools. The project was supported by the Danish Art Foundation and the fabric was sponsored by Danish Art Weaving.
