Introduction by Curator Ditte Hammerstrøm:
"At a time when design as a concept is applied broadly to many different phenomena by many different actors, it is important not to lose sight of the essence of craft and design: hands-on work with the material and with the visual, aesthetic and sensous qualities of an object. In MINDCRAFT18 we thus place the objects centre stage as we present 15 new site-specific works created specially for the beautiful cloister of San Simpliciano.
The exhibition highlights the experimental and uncompromisingly quality of design and craft, which is constantly engaged in exploring new ways of working with a material. Qualities that we need to preserve and nurture. MINDCRAFT gives the participants a unique opportunity to go right to the edge, give their creativity free rein and try out new approaches.
MINDCRAFT18 offers a snapshot of sensous and material qualities. Qualities that may seem elusive and hard to define, but which are strikingly clear when we experience them.
The selected designers and makers represent a wide field within Danish craft and design, including both new and established practitioners. A common factor uniting them all is a unique and experimental approach to their field. They push their materials to the limit and challenge the boundries of the possible, creating an exhibition in the San Simpliciano cloister that is rich in details and sensous qualities."
